Mayan Calendar Reset

Does the Mayan Calendar end on 12-21-2012? or Does it merely reset and go back to 00.00.00?

There is some thought that 12-21-2012 has the same indicators as the original 00.00.00
That is why it does not continue.
Hence, why would the Mayan's continue if the job had already been done.
